01 / Why we exist

A full bowl isn't always a better bowl.

We kept coming back to one question: why are so many dogs overfed, yet undernourished?

A premium label doesn't always tell the whole story. Conventional kibble is commonly made with high-heat extrusion and starch to hold its shape. Meanwhile, food that feels fresher can mean freezer space, thawing and delivery schedules. We believed there had to be a more thoughtful way.

The usual dry food

Convenient, yes. But extrusion often relies on starch and intense heat.

Fresh & raw

Appealing ingredients, but freezer logistics and daily prep don't fit every life.

The add-on fix

A probiotic powder may be added to food without changing the food itself.

02 / The old idea worth bringing back

Fermentation isn't new.
That's the point.

For thousands of years, people have fermented food — from sourdough to kefir. Dogs evolved as opportunistic scavengers alongside human kitchens, eating a far more varied diet than a modern bag of kibble suggests.

We use traditional fermentation of real ingredients, like buckwheat, as part of the food itself. Controlled fermentation creates organic acids and other metabolites. Rather than promising fragile live bacteria in every bowl, we're interested in what fermentation leaves behind.

Not a powder sprinkled on at the end. An ingredient with a story of its own.

Two roads.

Arūnas and Andrew came together from two sides of the same world: building pet-food brands and veterinary care.

They had all seen the same gap between what owners wanted to feed and what was actually practical. So they asked a simple question: what would we feed our own dogs if we built it from scratch?

The answer is Furmented Furmula: a protein-led, gently air-dried food with traditional fermentation at its heart, alongside a functional range for the little things that matter every day.
